Inspired by wechat. It sounds to me like it's fairly easy to implement on a basic level, though it would be nice if we could combine opening a 1:1 room with verifying the device that we're connecting through the QR code.

It would be very useful to add someone by QR code when you are face-to-face instead to search the contact by phone or MatrixID.

Maybe add the qr code before login as well.
Scenario: you have your shiny qr code on your phone open
Person right next to you: has downloaded the app
a) scan qr code now, save locally to device, and act as it had been scanned after account creation
b) have the akward moment of having them make an account, confirm email, choose un & pw, captcha

This is an interesting feature request. I can see this workflow:

  • To scan a Qr code, either:
  • To display the Qr code:
    • tap your profile picture on the left pane, or a future button next to it
    • Enter the menu to scan a Qr code, and tap "display my own code"

In any case, displaying your own Qr code should probably give you the opportunity to scan one, and vice versa.
