Flameshot Version

Flameshot v11.0.0 ()
Compiled with Qt 5.15.3
linux: 5.10.0-1057-oem
ubuntu-core: 20

Installation Type

Linux, MacOS, or Windows Package manager (apt, pacman, eopkg, choco, brew, ...)

Operating System type and version

Ubuntu 20.04

Description

Screenshot editor crashes if any other editing option is clicked during text input and the work is lost.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Capture a screenshot
    (optionally make other text edits)
  2. Select the text editor ("T" icon)
    (optionally add text)
  3. Select any other tool. At this point, editor will immediately close unexpectedly

The only way to work around the issue is to close the text editor first by clicking the "T" icon again before resuming, but this is hardly ideal when you are just trying to quickly annotate a screenshot.

I have had that happen a lot recently too, I use Flameshot on both Windows and Pop OS (latest version, v11)
(I really love Flameshot by the way, it's by far the best screenshot tool I've ever used ❤️ )

This was fixed in #2369 Not sure when we will have an official release out.

Well that was a fast resolution of the problem, thanks a lot ^^
I'll wait for the next release then, thanks for the fix :)

Same bug on Arch Linux (kernel 5.17.2-arch3-1)

Is it possible to release this fix soon? Because for me it feels like it's a major bug, it looks almost unusable because of this.

If you are on arch install flameshot-git from AUR. I wanted to do a patch release last week but life has been very busy lately.

I can wait if you are busy, plus I don't want to install things from AUR as much as I can help it because my laptop is a bit old and compiling all the code takes time. I just wanted to know if it could be released faster as it seems like a major bug.

EDIT: Also, someone told me if you deselect the text tool after finishing your text input then it doesn't crash. And I've confirmed that works for now.

@Atreyagaurav if you want the fix that bad and you don't want to compile the code, instead of pushing the devs, I suggest you to download and install the pre-compiled nightly builds. It would take at most ~3 minutes on medium internet speed. You could have find this info easily on our website.

@Atreyagaurav I've already stated how you can get around it - see the last paragraph in Steps to reproduce.
