Notch takes up more space than needed when playing music or video

Problem

The notch takes up more space than I think it needs when playing media or having a live activity. This sometimes blocks options in the menu bar, especially on smaller devices like the 13" Macbook Air or the 14" Macbook Pro.

Expected behavior

On the iPhone's dynamic island, I've noticed that the little album icon and the spectrogram are right up against the edges of the cutouts for the camera and the sensors to save space. You can see it if you look at the dynamic island under a bright light. I was looking at the dynamic notch on my Macbook to see if it was the same, but there is quite a bit of space between the edge of the physical notch and the little icons. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but I think the notch could take up less space when playing music or other audios similar to how the iPhone's dynamic island saves space.
