On a notchless Mac, Alcove may hide various menu bar items and there is no way of interacting with them without quitting Alcove (see below for example in Android Studio). In general, Alcove may unintentionally hide content below it with no way of moving Alcove out of the way, even in its smallest (shortest) state.
Expected behavior
A suggested enhancement would be to add another level to the two-finger swipe up gesture for notchless Macs that shrinks Alcove into a much thinner bar at the top of the screen, allowing access to the elements below. The thin bar serves as a gesture area where a two-finger swipe down would restore the height of Alcove.
Alternatively, a potentially simpler implementation would be to make the blank Alcove adjustable in height, so it can be manually shrunk by the user. This achieves the following effects:
From the Now Playing live activity state, a two-finger swipe up directly minimizes Alcove into a thin bar.
Any HUD triggers (e.g., brightness controls, focus activation) expands directly from the thin bar and minimizes back to the thin bar on timeout.
macOS UI elements are visible and accessible below the thin bar.
Admittedly, this strays Alcove away from a notch app to a gesture area for HUDs and live activities, but it would greatly increase its usability on notchless Macs.
