How to prevent some files from being deployed as vercel functions

Summary

I have one function: api/src/index.ts which starts an apollo server. There are a lot of of other files in the api folder as well, but I do not want them to be deployed as functions.

vercel.json

What am I missing? How do I get these files to stop being deployed as functions?
