LLVM's API marches on. As they're not really all that great at maintaining API compatibility, some tweaks are necessary. Also required was adding extra code to support using
libffi, which is required (on at least OSX) but not mentioned byllvm-config --system-libs. That's a fault in LLVM, and is the cause of at least one other issue that I've found (though not in code we care about):rust-lang/rust#34486
