Adding NodeJS Discord community to get involved page #1932
Conversation
FYI, there's already https://discord.gg/zJmwKjJ (found via Reddit), which has over 500 members. Also at least two others as linked in nodejs/node#17821 |
We keep our server updated, and we are focus on the community level. |
Thoughts, @nodejs/website? |
@bnb runs the official discord server IIRC. |
Small but important point in case it gets listed: It is unofficial. See https://github.com/nodejs/node#support for what is official and unofficial. |
Good update :) Edited. |

Adding unofficial
FWIW I'd prefer we list Partner Communities per the @nodejs/community-committee and then also PR this into the Partner Communities list 👍 |
Good plan 👍 |

Committed the suggestion, Thanks you @sonicdoe |
@Trott I'm sorry, apparently I drew the line I bit differently. Great to know there's an "official" (pun intended) classification I could stick to, moving forwards. |
I run the Nodeiflux discord (https://discordapp.com/invite/vUsrbjd), I feel like we're starting to approach fragmentation here. There's also SpeakJS, which isn't listed here and isn't specifically focused on node.js, that's fairly large. |

This seems to be in the wrong place. This would be a better fit in the "Community Discussion" section, it seems, although only because of the oddball inclusion of NodeUp in that section. TBH, this whole page seems a bit of a hodgepodge. It's not clear what kind of getting involved is included on this page and what kind of getting involved isn't.

There is no need to say "(unofficial)". All (or nearly all?) of these are unofficial. My comment about it being unofficial wasn't a comment on the contents of the PR. It was a response to this comment: Adding NodeJS Discord community to get involved page #1932 (comment)

It seems wrong to include Node.js Discord and not NodeSlackers.
That's exactly my point: There are several Node.js/JavaScript related Discord communities out there. I think it's unfair to list only one. On the other hand, for a user it isn't very helpful to just list a bunch of Discord servers without further context. I don't know anything about how Discord and its communities work, but it would be nice if there was a way to join forces in the long run, rather than further fragment the user base. Also +1 on adding NodeSlackers. |
So, there hasn't been any feedback lately. Since we don't want to promote a single unofficial Node.js Discord server (IMHO it should either be all actively maintained ones or none), I'm going to close this PR. |
